Mondrian ha anche sperimentato altre forme d'arte prima di stabilirsi da solo neo-plastic modulo , compreso post-impressionism , divisionismo , e cubismo , quest'ultimo di cui questo è un esempio . Questo pezzo contiene blocchi ad incastro , che si formano insieme a forma di albero . Ma a differenza degli artisti cubisti da cui ha preso spunto , come picasso e georges braque , Mondrian doveva ancora fondere il suo stile artistico con le sue ricerche spirituali , e come tale questo era solo uno dei pochi esperimenti cubisti . Mondrian aveva ancora qualche anno da fare prima che cominciasse a pinne la sua vera voce come artista , sebbene si possa sostenere che il suo stile fosse ever-changing , culminando nei suoi capolavori nei suoi ultimi anni di vita .
